What Is Included in a Professional Deep Clean?

"What is included in deep cleaning" is one of the first things people ask us before they book, and it's a fair question. A deep clean costs more and takes longer than a regular tidy-up, so you should know exactly what you're paying for. The short version: a deep clean gets the buildup a normal cleaning skips. We're talking behind the toilet, the top of the fridge, the grout lines, the ceiling fan blades, the baseboards, the window tracks. The stuff that collects slowly and hides in plain sight.

The tricky part is that "deep clean" isn't a regulated term. One company's deep clean is another company's standard service, and a few outfits use the word to justify a higher price without doing much more work. That's why we lay it out plainly here. Below is a room-by-room look at what a real professional deep clean covers, what's usually an add-on, and a few things that matter more in Florida than they do up north.

We're Krystal View Cleaning, a family-owned company in Davenport that's been cleaning Central Florida homes and vacation rentals for over seven years. This is the same checklist our crews actually work from.

Deep clean vs. standard clean: the real difference

A standard clean keeps a home looking presentable week to week. It's surface work, done fast: wiping counters, cleaning toilets and sinks, dusting the things you can reach, vacuuming and mopping the open floor. If your house is already in decent shape and you just want it kept up, that's a standard clean.

A deep clean is the reset. It goes after everything a standard clean doesn't touch because there isn't time. Instead of wiping the outside of the oven, we clean inside it. Instead of mopping around the furniture, we move what we can and get under it. Instead of dusting the surfaces at eye level, we hit the baseboards, the door frames, the fan blades, and the tops of the cabinets. The first deep clean is the one that makes the biggest difference, because it clears out months of buildup all at once. After that, a regular standard clean can hold the line.

A good rule: if it's been more than a few months since a top-to-bottom cleaning, or if you've never had the home professionally cleaned, start with a deep clean. Then keep it up with standard visits.

What's included in a deep clean, room by room

Here's the actual work, broken down by room. This is close to what our crews run through on a deep clean, though every home is a little different and we adjust for what yours needs.

  • Kitchen: clean inside the oven and microwave, wipe out and disinfect the fridge, degrease the range hood and backsplash, scrub the stovetop and burners, clean cabinet fronts and handles, wipe inside a reasonable number of cabinets and drawers, descale and shine the sink and faucet, clean small appliances, and scrub the floor including the edges and corners.
  • Bathrooms: scrub grout and tile, remove soap scum and hard-water buildup from glass doors and fixtures, descale showerheads and faucets, deep-clean and disinfect the toilet including the base and behind it, wipe cabinet fronts and inside the vanity, polish mirrors and chrome, and wash the floor by hand along the baseboards.
  • Bedrooms: dust and wipe all furniture including headboards and dresser tops, clean under the bed, wipe baseboards and door frames, dust ceiling fans and light fixtures, clean window sills and tracks, and vacuum or mop including closet floors.
  • Living areas: dust and wipe all surfaces, clean ceiling fans and light fixtures, wipe baseboards and trim, dust blinds and window sills, clean glass and mirrors, wipe switch plates and door handles, vacuum upholstery and under cushions, and get under and behind furniture we can safely move.
  • Whole-home details: baseboards throughout, door frames and doors, light switches, outlet covers, interior window glass and sills, air vent covers, and cobwebs in corners and along ceilings.
  • Floors: vacuum and mop every room including edges, corners, and along baseboards, not just the open middle.

What counts as an add-on (not automatically included)

This is where a lot of confusion starts. A few jobs need special equipment, a lot more time, or carry real risk, so most companies quote them separately instead of folding them into a standard deep clean. Knowing which is which keeps you from expecting something that wasn't part of the price.

None of these are things you should assume come standard. If you want them, say so when you get your estimate, and a good company will tell you straight whether they handle it and what it adds.

  • Interior window washing on every pane (deep cleans usually include interior glass, but a full wash of every window inside and out is its own job)
  • Carpet shampooing or steam cleaning and upholstery extraction
  • Tile and grout steam restoration beyond hand-scrubbing
  • Wall washing (spot-cleaning marks is often included; scrubbing every wall is not)
  • Inside the fridge and freezer if fully packed, or a heavily neglected oven that needs multiple passes
  • Cleaning inside a large number of packed cabinets and closets
  • Garage, lanai, screen enclosure, or patio cleaning
  • Post-construction or post-renovation cleanup, which is a different service entirely

What Florida homes need that the checklists skip

Most deep-cleaning guides online are written for the whole country, so they miss what actually builds up in a Florida house. The humidity here changes the game. Bathrooms and any low-airflow spot grow mildew fast, especially around shower grout, silicone seals, window frames, and the rubber gasket on the washing machine. A real deep clean in Florida treats those spots instead of wiping past them.

Then there's the pollen. Central Florida gets coated in it in spring, and it works its way onto window sills, ceiling fans, blinds, and vent covers. Homes near the coast deal with salt air and fine sand that settle on surfaces and tracks. If you have a lanai or screened patio, the door tracks and sills collect a surprising amount of grit. We build these into how we deep-clean here because they're the difference between a home that looks clean and one that stays clean in this climate.

For vacation homes and short-term rentals in the Disney and ChampionsGate corridor, humidity is an even bigger deal. A house that sits empty and closed up between guests can grow musty and develop mildew in weeks. A deep clean before the season, plus consistent turnover cleaning, keeps the property fresh and keeps your reviews clean. That's a big part of what we do around Davenport, ChampionsGate, Reunion, Four Corners, and Kissimmee.

How long a deep clean takes and how to prep

A deep clean takes real time. For an average home, plan on several hours, and a larger or long-neglected house can run a full day or take a two-person crew. It's slower than a standard clean because the work is detailed and hands-on. If someone promises a whole-home deep clean in ninety minutes, they're doing a standard clean and calling it deep.

You don't have to do much to prep, but a little helps the crew spend their time on cleaning instead of tidying. Pick up clothes and clutter off the floors and surfaces, run the dishwasher or clear the sink, and put away anything valuable or fragile you'd rather handle yourself. If you want us to clean inside the fridge or specific cabinets, empty them ahead of time. Let us know about any surfaces that need special care, like natural stone or a delicate finish.

You also don't need to be home. Plenty of our clients leave a code or use a lockbox so we can come and go, which is handy for snowbirds and second-home owners who aren't in town. When we're done, walk through if you can. And if any area isn't right, our Krystal Clean Guarantee means you tell us within 24 hours and we come re-clean it free.

How to know a deep clean is actually deep

Since the term gets stretched, the smartest thing you can do is ask for the checklist before you book. A company that does true deep cleans will have one and will walk you through it. If the answer is vague, that's your answer.

A few questions cut through the fluff fast. Ask them of anyone you're considering, us included.

  • Do you clean inside the oven and fridge, or just the outsides?
  • Do you scrub grout and remove hard-water and soap-scum buildup, or only wipe the tile?
  • Do you get baseboards, door frames, ceiling fans, and vents?
  • Do you move furniture you can safely move to clean under it?
  • What's included versus what's an add-on, in writing?
  • What products do you use, and are they safe for kids and pets?

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

If it's been more than a few months since a thorough cleaning, or the home has never been professionally cleaned, a deep clean is worth it. It clears out the buildup a standard clean can't reach in the time allotted. After that first deep clean, regular standard visits are usually enough to keep the home in good shape, which costs less over time.

For most homes, once or twice a year on top of regular cleaning. In Florida, homes prone to mildew, or vacation rentals that sit closed up between guests, often do better with a deep clean two or three times a year because humidity speeds up buildup in bathrooms and low-airflow areas.

No. Many of our clients leave a code or use a lockbox so we can get in and out, which works well for snowbirds and second-home owners who aren't local. We recommend a quick walkthrough afterward if you can, and if anything isn't right, our Krystal Clean Guarantee lets you tell us within 24 hours and we re-clean it free.

In our deep cleans, yes, the oven interior and a wipe-out of the fridge are included, provided the fridge isn't fully packed. A heavily neglected oven that needs multiple passes or a fully stocked fridge that needs everything removed can add time, so we'll flag that when we give you an estimate.
